BRAIN HEART INFUSION BROTH
Brain Heart Infusion Broth is a highly nutritional liquid medium used for the cultivation of pathogenic cocci and other fastidious microorganisms. Brain Heart Infusion and Proteose Peptone provide a source of carbon, nitrogen and vitamins. Dextrose is the fermentable carbohydrate. Sodium Chloride supplies essential electrolytes and maintains osmotic equilibrium. Disodium Phosphate acts as pH buffer. Addition of Sheep Blood allows for the isolation and cultivation of Histolama capsulatum and other fungi. The antibiotics Gentamicin and Chloramphenicol also make this medium selective for fungi by preventing the growth of unwanted bacteria.
