D/E Neutralizing Agar
D/E (Dey/Engley) Neutralizing Agar is used for the isolation and detection of microorganisms from sanitized surfaces. D/E Neutralizing Agar is capable of neutralizing a broad spectrum of disinfectant and preservative chemicals, including quaternary ammonium compounds. It can determine the bactericidal capability of disinfectants and therefore is well suited for environmental samples. Sodium Thioglycollate neutralizes mercurials. Sodium Thiosulfate neutralizes iodine and chlorine. Sodium Bisulfate neutralizes formaldehyde and glutaraldehyde. Lecithin neutralizes quaternary ammonium compounds. Tween 80 neutralizes phenols and formalin. Enzymatic Digest of Casein and Yeast Extract supply amino acids, peptides, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals. Dextrose is the fermentable carbohydrate. Bromocresol Purple is the pH indicator that shifts from purple to yellow when fermentation of Dextrose lowers the pH of the medium. Agar is the gelifying agent.
