Listeria monocytogenes is a Gram-positive, rod-shaped, non-spore forming bacterium with flagella. 1,600 infection cases are reported annually in the United States, constituting neonates, pregnant women, the elderly and immunosuppressed individuals the high-risk group to this pathogen.
