KF Streptococcus Agar
KF Streptococcus Agar is a selective medium for the isolation and enumeration of fecal Enterococci. Enzymatic Digest of Animal Tissue is the main nitrogen source. Yeast Extract provides vitamins and minerals. Maltose and Lactose are the fermentable carbohydrates. Sodium Chloride maintains the osmotic balance. Sodium Glycerophosphate serves as buffering agent. Sodium Azide inhibits the growth of Gram-negative organisms. Bromocresol Purple shifts from purple to yellow upon medium acidification due to carbohydrate fermentation. Triphenyltetrazolium Chloride (TTC) is a stain that is absorbed by actively metabolizing bacterial cells, resulting in the development of pink-red colonies.
