WILKINS CHALGREN BROTH
Derived from Wilkins-Chalgren Agar, Wilkins-Chalgren Broth is a liquid medium for the cultivation of anaerobic bacteria from water and clinical samples. The medium does not require supplementation with blood to support bacterial growth. Enzymatic Digests of Casein and Gelatin provide amino acids, peptides, and minerals. Yeast Extract supplies essential B-complex vitamins and other growth factors, including purines and pyrimidines. Dextrose is the main fermentable carbohydrate. Sodium Chloride maintains the osmotic equilibrium. L-Arginine contributes to the growth of Eubacterium lentum, while Sodium Pyruvate enhances that of Veillonella spp. and degrades reactive oxygen species. Hemin (X Factor) and Vitamin K are added as essential growth factors for several species of anaerobes.
