BTB (Bromothymol Blue) Lactose Agar is used for the detection and isolation of pathogenic Staphylococci. On this medium, Staphylococci are differentiated based on their ability to grow at high pH and in the presence of Bromothymol Blue. Proteose Peptone and Beef Extract supply nitrogenous compounds, vitamins, and minerals, while Lactose is the fermentable carbohydrate. Agar is the gelifying agent.
