Löwenstein Medium Base is employed for the growth of mycobacteria, especially the tuberculosis-causing microorganism Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The presence of Malachite Green suppresses the growth of Gram-positive bacteria. L-Asparagin serves as nitrogenous source, while Glycerol and Potato Starch supply carbon. The addition of Coagulated Egg supplies lipids and albumin for bacterial growth. Sodium Citrate, Magnesium Sulfate, and Potassium Dihydrogen Sulfate provide essential electrolytes. Agar is the gelifying agent.
