M Broth
M Broth is used in cultivating Salmonella spp. in foods and feeds by the accelerated enrichment serology (ES) procedure. M Broth was developed by Sperber and Diebel and conforms to recommended procedures in food testing and enzyme immunoassays. Enzymatic Digest of Casein supplies amino acids and peptides. Yeast Extract is a source of B-complex vitamins and minerals. D-Mannose is the fermentable carbohydrate. Sodium Citrate provides a ready source of energy. Sodium Chloride provides essential electrolytes and maintains the osmotic equilibrium. Dipotassium Phosphate serves as pH buffer. Ferrous Sulfate, Magnesium Chloride, and Magnesium Sulfate provide divalent cations that stimulate bacterial growth. Tween 80 is a surfactant and dispersing agent.
